Alzheimer's Association of America (AFA) offers free virtual memory screens which allow individuals to receive one-on-one, confidential memory screenings from a qualified professional using their computer, smartphone, or tablet.

This service, part of AFA’s National Memory Screening Program, began during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that people could still get screened from the safety and comfort of their homes.

@nursefrombirth My mother suffered with it for 17 years. It was the long goodbye. She passed away in 2016. Someone once told me, "You have two mothers now: The one you knew and the one you know now." I had to learn to get to know the "new" mom. I think down deep she knew who I was. She did not know my name, but the feeling that I was someone close never left her.

@Qapla thank you for sharing your lived experience. I work with persons with dementia and I've witnessed the pain of the family and the person with dementia. It is indeed a "long goodbye" However, it is one of my favorite populations to work with. I did my doctoral project about the impact of music on agitation in persons with dementia. Thanks again for sharing 🤗

@nursefrombirth Thank you for dedicating your career to such an important, and oft forgotten, population. It is interesting that my mom always responded positively to music and familiar tastes. I once made her favorite cookie recipe and shared the cookies with her. Her response was a nod and a smile. She loved to clap to music, as well.

@nursefrombirth And yet society seems to have its head stuck in the sand. 😢
