@netspionage Oh I'm well aware of those types. There's a very strong movement of division among the Christian sects, and much of it is motivated by, and paid for by white supremacists and Nazi groups throughout the nation. I tend to group them in a simplistic manner, there's the Good Christians; folks that do believe in Christ and his teachings and follow as closely as their lives allow in the modern age without adding more interpretations to an already twisted translation of the original bible.

@netspionage And then there's the Corrupt Christians. These are the ones more prone and exposed to misinformation, misleading interpretations from their faith leaders/pastors and Qanon/political leaders. They are also the most often exposed to Fox News and other media forums that give very little intellectual fuel to allow people to grow their own thinking beyond their original belief sets.

@netspionage But there is also a very small sect of Christian followers that fall between the cracks, that believe that the bible is unfinished or unclear, and tend to try and reeducate themselves to expand on their knowledge of their religious roots. I like those a lot, they are very bright folk, and tend to be very open minded too.

@netspionage But yeah, the No True Scotsman fallacy tends to get used a TON by politicians, misinformed public speakers, and folks that simply don't WANT to inform themselves and simply will fight to die on that hill of misinformation riddled in nonsense and deliberately side themselves with groups that will defend them, no matter if they believe the same things they do or not.

@netspionage Heh just read this to my husband and he's nodding in agreement, we tend to discuss and debate these things a lot but we share a common understanding that the way politics is manipulating people of different faiths against one another like chess pieces isn't what the founding fathers had wanted in the original founding of this country, they were trying to escape persecution of this kind, and their founding words were originally intent to adjust as the times change, updated, ect.

"Conservative" is (in the US) an all-encompassing label to refer to a set of political beliefs, which includes transphobia and bigotry by default.

"Christian" refers to a wide variety of denominations. Many support bigotry and transphobia, but large swathes don't.

My favorite is 3 words describing our ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the largest Lutheran denomination in US) pastor would make my old Catholic priest's head explode: "Pastor Beth's wife."

FTR, fairly positive a Doctorate in Divinity (aka Doctor Divinitatis) is strictly honorary in America, so those earned in at least a US seminary or anywhere in the Commonwealth gets a higher ranking.

I mean...any televangelist can mail away for one - and has - which means non-seminary-backed US ones are meaningless. Not trying to be a dick; just saying...
