While only have a very few books left by #PhilipKDick, here's an original 1962 hardcover edition of The Man in the High Castle.
It's not even my favorite work by him, TBH.
And, Yes, the dust cover is nearly disintegrated, I know.
One of my favorite authors. Harlan Ellison I think is my top one.
Another of mine as well. Got to meet him twice, had a load of first editions signed by him.
Brilliant ideas, genius writer. He definitely stands alone.
I only have one surviving first ed signed by him; IIRC, I posted pics of it here...
When I was in Sri Lanka, I got to spend some time with Arthur C. Clarke, and I was SOOO STOKED. His den/library was AMAZING, and I got a first glimpse of 2010 (he had about the first dozen pages on his desk).
To be clear...I doubt he would have so much as recalled my name even a few days later, and the visit was just that day.
Frankly, I was blown away that Harlan Ellison remembered me the second time we met. Again: probably didn't a week later, but still.
Such "brushes with greatness" I think are worth bragging about. Not like I was best buds with them; just brief meets, really.
Doesn't make it any less cool for me, from a massive FanBoi POV 😁
Damn... I grew up reading Clarke.
@Old_Dave
When I made it back stateside, I was telling people, "THERE'S GONNA BE ANOTHER ONE! A SEQUEL TO 2001!" and everyone was like, "So?" & Looking at me like *I* was the idiot.
Whatever.
