This was my Uncle Stan, and my Mom, Stan was my Moms brother.
When I was 4 years old Stan came to live with my family.
My Mom found out that my grandmother was trying to beat the Gay out of Stan, and was sending him to a mental hospital to try to cure him of being Gay.
When Stan was 14 years old, he came to live with us in Seattle, I was 4 years old at the time.
Stan and I were very close, and because of that, the Gay community in Seattle was my family.
When Stan was a bit older, about 16-18, he went to the Gay clubs in Seattle, he would meet other Gay men that didn't have families, cuz they families disowned them for being Gay.
My family took them in as well.
I grew up in a tiny house, 500 Sq feet.
But, no matter what, my family always made room for kids who's families discarded them, for being different.
Because of this, my family was pretty well known in the Seattle Gay community.
Stan would take me around to the Gay bars during the day, and we would have lunch.
Again, these people all became my extended family.
When I was around 12, I knew I was Bi... my first crush was Kristy McNichol.. that was a dead give away, that I was not a straight girl. 😂
When I was 16, I brought a girl home to meet my family, it was just so normal to me.
I grew up in such a safe and accepting environment, it never occurred to me, that there was hate for people who loved the same sex.
