BREAKING: Hundreds of jobs are expected to be lost as Scotland's only oil refinery is to close.
Grangemouth Refinery is set to close by spring 2025.
Scotland’s oil will be completely piped into England. Scotland will now have the distinction of not only being one of the very few, if not only, oil producing nation that didn't benefit from oil revenues; but will also have no refining capacity as an oil producer.
@mickcarty “..marks the start of a regular programme of engagement with all colleagues on the changing nature of our business”. What absolute scheiße. Do these people go through special training on how to talk and say nothing?
Do you suppose this move is meant to undercut #Indyref2 support?
@SnelsetterFarm
Six refineries in the UK, and the one in Scotland - where the oil actually is - is the one being closed.
Puts us in a very dangerous position when the next fuel shortages come around.
@mickcarty "Union Bonus?"
@mickcarty I seem to remember something like this happening to another country near merry old, only with potatoes...
I've heard of referendums for Scotland to leave the U.K.
Maybe it would be simpler for, say, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, et all, to kick out the one common denominator in your difficulty?
Disclaimer: I may have a teensy reputation as a troublemaker.
@mickcarty Apologies to my English friends. I am just being comical.
I'd really rather more people find ways to stay in communities with each other.
But sometimes, England, I swear it's like you're trying to be the U.K.'s Texas.
The closure of Grangemouth as an oil refinery is what happens when a country which still has major oil reserves doesn't control its own economy. Another Union bonus.
