WaPo article:

Don’t deny the link between poverty and single parenthood

washingtonpost.com/opinions/do

Octo Note: 8.4 Million children from single-parent homes live below the poverty line, compared with 4 million children below the poverty line for two parent households.

With social programs being cut, this issue only gets worse.

Don't give me a "lets legislate morals" argument, prohibition has clearly killed that.😕

@cephalopie If people didn't ditch the kids they had in previous relationships, it wouldn't be an issue regardless of marital demographic.

@malice No easy answer when the parents split up. I agree don't ditch your kids.

@cephalopie That seems like a pretty easy answer to me. Don't have kids you can't afford, and don't ditch your kids that you had in past relationships. It's as though the majority of marriages don't end in divorce, anyway.

@malice I absolutely agree.

However, I feel it's that morals issue as well. "Have a kid, don't care if it starves because I'm mad at the other parent."

I knew a man who refused to take a job more than minimum wage so he wouldn't have to pay child support, as spite to ex-wife.

Literally that evil.

There'll always be those that don't take responsibility for what they've done.
