one of the things discovered during the bomb cyclone-induced power outage is that while our house is well insulated and holds the heat from our gas fireplace very well, our refrigerator/freezer is NOT well insulated, resulting in about 80% of all items having to be tossed. good to know for future storms.

@lfrum I wonder if freezer tech is evolving to be more efficient in these types of more common emergencies ....

@Zevon I would have thought so, and we tried not to open the doors, especially the freezer. but after 40+ hours of no power, everything in the freezer thawed and all the dairy and vegetables in the fridge went bad. :(
