@MisterE @YouTube If you have Sly & the Family Stone immediately followed by What’s Going On, you _have_ to have There’s a Riot Goin’ On, which I just found out a week ago was titled in response to Marvin Gaye’s masterpiece. Listening to the two, you can hear the huge divide between late ’60s (What’s Going On was recorded two years before release) optimistic progressive soul and early ’70s strung out deep funk. Incredible.
