The History of Hanukkah.

I’ve always found the holiday interesting, because it’s from the Maccabean Period, which is something most raised Christian would not be familiar with in the west. It’s from “The Time between the Testaments” The story is in First and Second Maccabees which are two books considered apocryphal in Protestant traditions.

@NiveusLepus I and II Maccabees are in the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox canons (minus the Ethiopian church), as well as the Assyrian Bible.

@koavf Yes, they are deuterocanonical, which means they aren’t included in Protestant Canons but are in Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions as you’ve stated. ^_^

@NiveusLepus For sure. Most Christians would be familiar with the story, even if a substantial subset of Western Christians would not be. Unfortunately.

@koavf Indeed. I was a Methodist, and raised with western christian traditions. I obtained a Religious Studies (theology) degree with a minor in history in college and I learned much.
