@koavf This is pretty interesting. Pretty accurate as well. I'm sure we've all had our fair share of experiences with trolls.
@AlexArzou Rite. I think the key point is the nihilism: they are contradicting a thesis not with an antithesis but sheer garbage. The goal is not to overcome your idea with another idea but to exhaust you to defend reality and cause anyone on the outside to just get confused and move on from facts.
@koavf Yeah they also do that by getting emotional, using insults, and deviating from the topic. It's crazy how ingrained and accepted trolls and troll-like behavior is nowadays
@AlexArzou In even the public sphere! Seeing trolling from the president (not your standard emotional appeals or propaganda that has existed for decades but actual trolling) would be funny if it were not tragic.
@koavf Yep. The POTUS is a huge troll. I don't know about any other political trolls (except maybe McConnell) but just the POTUS himself being a troll is a huge blow to everything. Honesty, integrity, peace, unity, you name it.
@AlexArzou A president is smaller than the presidency, the presidency is smaller than the government, and the government is smaller than democracy. Altho he is undeniably doing damage to institutions and mores in the United States, this race-baiting con man who wormed his way into the White House is not as disastrous as the Civil War or Andrew Jackson genociding the indigenous population or the Great Depression. America will endure if we want it.
@AlexArzou Yeah, I used to be sold on the idea that if we have some borderline fascist leading the show, then America would swing in the opposite direction toward humanity and reason but I am a lot more skeptical of that now. Either way, this will definitely be looked back on as a low-point but not one that genuinely threatens the American experiment.
