Ravelry is useful cuz then you can rationalize buying new yarn cuz your stash isn’t *nearly* as big as that other person’s.

@Beanc my stash is too large to even begin getting it all typed in to ravelry...

@redenigma ah, yeah. I have the fortune of having had ravelry before I realllllly started knitting.

That is to Coso for my newish addiction!

@Beanc i had a decent selection of yarns before i started knitting because i've always done some braiding & offloom weaving... and we really shouldn't discuss my several hundred pounds of beads either.

@Beanc it's amazing how many beads i can get into knitting projects though.

@redenigma I’ve seen some very pretty project combining the two

@Beanc @kismatt the red shawl has around 5000 beads. the green-grey shawl has maybe 200. i usually use a hook to put them on (the red shawl has them on decrease stitches in one section which was something new i tried). i've done a few with putting the beads on the yarn first, but it seems to put too much wear on the yarn to keep moving them as you knit. for some things it works better (like beaded bags), but usually those are using silk which is less prone to wear

@redenigma @Beanc I find that pre-stringing the beads also tends to move them to the purl bar, and on a lace k front/p back they migrate to the back. Hook technique puts them squarely on the stitch.

@kismatt yup, that's why it's good for bead purses (or i guess sweaters), because you can swag a bunch of beads on yarnovers for decorative effect
