@kismatt oh, i never actually look where they want to put beads. i put them on the stitches just before (if it's a plain knit stitch) or after (if it's an increase/decrease stitch) knitting them, never on the purl rows. i have heard rumors that there are designers that think you place beads on the purl on the return row at any rate, it's very much not worth my time to do a mug cozy that thinks i'm going to purl 2 together through the back loops multiple times per row.
