America is GREAT.
Wikipedia:
Starting in 1966, The Dead started playing the song at concerts.
Bassist Phil Lesh has described "Dancing in the Street" as the first song the band stretched out in the live setting from a short pop song into drawn out improvisational jam piece, a practice that would become a Grateful Dead signature.

I found the question of "Who is America's greatest rock band," too hard to answer.
Trey won me over, it's The Dead.

Sad but probably true ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽต

We have the Beatles, Stones, Zep, Sabbath, Purple, Queen etc etc. Etc.

Just a little gentle ribbing to take your minds off the election ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™

I like your order; the best and most important band in pop/rock history (Lisa wonโ€™t like this) is def The Beatles. No question.

But the original topic (one day a few years back amongst Bixie group members on the dead bird) was โ€œgreatest US pop/rock bandโ€ to which I replied โ€œthe Dead and the Eagles in a tie.โ€ Which caused consternation. ๐Ÿ˜†
