Southern Front – From West to East:

Attack near Stepove seems to have gone well. Ukrainians have taken a bite out of the Russian front line and held it. Not sure if this was the veteran 128th Mountain Brigade or one of the 3 new mech brigades reputed to be in the area (116th, 117th, and 118th).

...

Daylight attack south of Mala Tokmachka in the center of the Southern front did not go well, at all. 47th Mech and 33rd Mech confirmed in battle here, based on visual losses. Losses include 4 Bradley's (one blown up, the others possibly repairable), 2 Leopard 2A6 (1 burned out, 1 possibly repairable), 1 Leopard 2A4 (burned out), 1 T-64BV, and at least 1, possibly 2, BMR-2 minesweepers. Prior to the attack the Russians had moved two Spetsnaz brigades (22nd and 45th) into the area.

Ukrainian column drove into a minefield and bunched up while waiting for the minesweeper to clear a path. Russians dropped artillery on the bunched up column. Supposedly Ukrainian attacks continued into the night on this part of the front, but it's also possible that the Ukrainians used the cover of darkness to recover their damaged vehicles. The Russian Spetsnaz brigades are light infantry not well equipped for a stand up fight against heavy armor.

...

Near Zahirne another Ukrainian attack took a large bite out of the Russian first line of defense. Ukrainian 46th Air Mobile brigade, a Territorial Defense brigade and two independent battalions are known to be in this area but it's unknown if they or another new units(s) conducted this attack.

...

Between Novosilka and Vuhledar a series of Ukrainian attacks by the new 23rd Mech, 31st Mech, and 37th Marine brigades seem to have made some headway and penetrations into the Russian first line of defense. Confirmation is difficult here because of a lack of video, but that same lack of video means the Russians are probably not doing well on this part of the front.

...

Eastern Front – From South to North:

Fighting reported at Spartak and artillery duels in Advika north of Donetsk City. No confirmations yet.

Ukrainian 3rd Assault brigade continues to grind up Russian defenses south of Bakhmut. 67th Mech and 30th Mech brigades (and friends) grinding up Russian defenses north of Bakhmut. Still with the Ukrainian bite and hold tactics here and the Russians still don't have an answer for them.

...

Rest of the Eastern front looking north is inconclusive or unconfirmed fighting, probes, and artillery duels. In other words, more of the same as yesterday.

Is there any hope that this is still a shaping and testing phase with a more focused attack queued up awaiting instructions?

@jurban Yes, very much so. Less than a third of the new brigades have appeared so far and most of the attacks on the southern front have been in places where a sustained attack against dug in defenses in depth would be counter-productive.

So far...
