I'm feeling quite sanguine about the Russian culture at the moment. I'm going to a dark place and need to see the path back to the brighter place.

With me it helps to remember we’ve been through similar before in history.

Our era of colonialism or feudalism was similar and worse. Maybe this is more like WW2 with rampant nationalism.

These periods all ended because those of us who believe in something better fought for it. And once the tide turned it usually lead to a positive era.

I hope so. But seeing videos of Russian teens and young soldiers makes me think that the Russian culture is going backwards.

My family has been influenced by Russian aggression for 150 years. My great grandfather, a Lithuanian, was conscripted to fight for the Russians in Crimea. He walked home with a colleague and eventually married his daughter - my great grandmother. Then, his son, my grandfather, left Lithuania because the Russians were looking for conscripts again.
