You can join the Army, or you can go to jail. It’s an old cliche that’s more fiction than fact, and hasn’t been a common practice for decades. Now, a new proposal in the Florida legislature wants to once again offer military service as an alternative to jail time.

I actually agree with this idea, I knew a guy in school who was voted most likely to do time, he was faced with real jail time, joined the army, became a Ranger, then went on to join the US Marshals

We need to instill that goal in both the military and our penal system.

Without that there is little to direct them down a productive path.
