Let's say you're on a Star Trek episode as the alien-of-the-week.
You're playing a member of a new species, which is based on your name (or username), personality, and interests:
What's your species called, what's its deal, and why's it running into a Starfleet crew?
@MLClark We are the Homebirds, we generally stay on our own planet but we have detected anomalies within the crew, and have come to gently fix them. Unfortunately, our intentions have been misunderstood, and we are seen as an invading enemy. As much as we try to heal the crew and the plant life in hydroponics, the ship tries to kill us. Fortunately Guinan recognises us as persuades Jean Luc to fight with the ship's controls to let us be. And so we go on to bring peace, love, and light once more.
