Overpopulation is what destroyed man's connection with nature. We can no longer see the power of nature because we can only see our influence on it.
@jjGravitas @holon42 I'm not sure that's overpopulation, rather than "bad use of energy and materials". Humans are extremely scalable. A single human can provide for multiple other humans.
When you see more humans and less stuff available for them, it's typically not that we're out of resources. They've just been extracted away from those who need them to those who accumulate them.
these factors are all interconnected. certainly, population pressures destroy ecosystems to accommodate human activities,
and the development of scientific language lowered and in many cases removed historical cultural constraints against wanton development and the pursuit of luxury.
it appears that nature is gearing up to reduce that pressure from multiple directions.
we are facing a multitude of consequences for our hubris and depraved indifference.
but, yes, hope is still in the box.
for the first time in ages i have some hope for politics in America.
calling people to remember the promise of America, of freedom, of democracy.

I'm hopeful we've begun to see another side of this relationship.
Material sciences producing results and understanding which were quite recently considered not possible.
I do worry it presents us with a paralyzingly wide range of choices, most of which are to ignore our widening options.
yes, i see signs of a counterbalance occurring too. seeing the importance of the liminal without getting possessed by it, as inspiration, creative energy.
acknowledging the shadow and managing the destructive side of chthonic energy is a huge task for ego consciousness.
