calling another Jimmy.

this is the end, the only end, my friends.

now thrift stores have embraced greed.

"The examples of questionable pricing at Value Village have been piling up for months.

In Courtenay, B.C., one shopper found kids shoes priced at $6.49, while the original tag said $3.

A used book at a store in Winnipeg was being sold for double what it would have cost at its previous retailer."

someone asked me recently what do i do with my old clothes.

hah, i wear them was my response. until they're garbage. some items i have no memory of when or where i got them, except it was likely at a 2nd hand store, back before this grift [sic] started to come about.

@holon42

It always delights me to have to throw away shoes or garments. Clothing should be worn until they are fully worn. Our compulsion to keep filling our closets, is a fool’s addiction.

I buy one good natural knit sweater instead of 6 crappy sweaters made of polyester.

@LnzyHou @holon42 my clothing/bedding is all natural fiber, so when they reach the end of useful life as clothing/sheets, they are repurposed into cleaning rags or quilt pieces (sheets often become PJs). when they get too worn for that, they are composted.

@redenigma

excellent. that's the way it was done in more frugal times. environmentally responsible.

@holon42 parents & grandparents went through the Great Depression. on my mom's side they were poor to start with, then my grandfather abandoned my grandmother & mom in rural PA when he took his mother & sister to Oregon looking for work. so i learned a lot about pinching pennies until they scream...

yes, my parents and grandparents were refugees from Hitler. being German in 🇨🇦 in those days plus being poor made for some difficulties.

we learned how to be frugal. valuable experience.
