So, the family adopted two new puppies from the shelter right now. And I don't know how to feel about it because my dog died less than two months ago.

@hcs i'm sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. many vets & shelter workers suggest that adopting a homeless pet or pets is the best possible tribute to the memory of the pet we lost. if you're not ready to interact with new pups just yet, that's ok (assuming there are other people in the household to feed, train, cuddle, etc.).

Thank you so much @barbaraedelman . It is a big family, and the puppies are already the center of all attention. 😅 I just don't know how to deal with it... I know that I don't want any dog to just take his place like we do with a broken object.

@hcs are people in your family behaving like new pups are replacements? if so, tell them you find it painful. can you have alone time with one of the pups? just hang out with it & watch how it behaves and decide how to relate to it.

@barbaraedelman the new puppies are lovely. One is shy and quiet, the other has a ton of energy. Both are always wagging their trails. They actually slept on my lap after I arrived from work and I'm sure that I'll love both. But I don't want any new dog that even resembles the dog that I lost. My family seems OK just to fill the void.
