TFW someone emails you with a question that is so badly phrased that you can't even figure out what they're asking, so you try to provide an answer that covers everything you think they *might* want to know but have an unhappy feeling that they really might be groping after something quite different.

I simply respond with, "I have no idea what you are talking about".

I could have done that, but I prefer to cut my email chains as short as I can, if that's possible. I find a back-and-forth where I try to elicit an explanation through short questions, answered opaquely, extremely frustrating.
