“ 23andMe is not doing well. Its stock is on the verge of being delisted. It shut down its in-house drug-development unit last month, only the latest in several rounds of layoffs. Last week, the entire board of directors quit, save for Anne Wojcicki, a co-founder and the company’s CEO. Amid this downward spiral, Wojcicki has said she’ll consider selling 23andMe—which means the DNA of 23andMe’s 15 million customers would be up for sale, too”

My fam did this. I did not.

Their privacy policy was a joke. This should be a class action suit.

This was a an attempt to get people’s DNA to sell. It was never about tracing lineage. That was the scam. People in my family (right and left wing) fell for it. I tried to explain but was rebuffed. “What could it hurt?”

It angers me that they are selling what should be private information.

@feloneouscat Scary to think about where your data will go if you did sign up for 23 and me. One of the many reasons these sorts of companies were a bad idea from the word go, IMO.

@feloneouscat Tell them to delete their data. @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine has you covered:

"If you have information stored with 23 & me request deletion! They're crashing and burning.

You have to log into your account they'll send and email with a link to confirm and you have to confirm then you'll get a message back."

@feloneouscat Only for those who opted in to let them keep their DNA on file.

My family did this but none of us opted in.

@danielbsmith

Not trusting their opt in. The US has practically no privacy laws.
