“The House plans to vote this week on a three-month stopgap funding bill as the clock ticks down and Donald Trump pressures Republicans to shut down the government without policy concessions they have no realistic chance of achieving.”

The policy concession? To pass a law that would make it illegal to vote if women changed their names if married and DID NOT change it on the birth certificate.

No joke.

It would become effective BEFORE the election.

@feloneouscat I'm not seeing that they want to make it illegal to vote if married name isn't changed on birth certificate in this article or links. Only that they want proof of citizenship. Where did you find it?

@awnaves SAVE Act text:

“ (5) A valid government-issued photo identification card issued by a Federal, State or Tribal government other than an identification described in paragraphs (1) through (4)”
(A) A certified birth certificate issued by a State
iii) includes the full name, date of birth, and place of birth of the applicant

There is no provision for changing your name when married.

This was by intent. The law would go in effect immediately.
