“The House plans to vote this week on a three-month stopgap funding bill as the clock ticks down and Donald Trump pressures Republicans to shut down the government without policy concessions they have no realistic chance of achieving.”

The policy concession? To pass a law that would make it illegal to vote if women changed their names if married and DID NOT change it on the birth certificate.

No joke.

It would become effective BEFORE the election.

nbcnews.com/politics/congress/

“ Johnson and other GOP leaders are pleading with their party not to allow a shutdown just five weeks before Election Day, which would be unprecedented in modern times. Swing-district Republicans say it would be a terrible move, as their party would likely get blamed by voters.”

Historically this is exactly what happens. Republicans WANT to blame it on Biden.

It hasn’t even got that far. Republicans THEMSELVES can’t even agree.

It is monumentally stupid.

@feloneouscat

And the GOP women would be scrambling, too, making the GOP men crazy.
"Honey, where's the checkbook? I need it to order my marriage certificate from the county where our college is located."
"I don't know. I thought you were the last one to write a check."
"Maybe it's in that box with all the old tax paperwork."

@feloneouscat the orange traitor has gone completely out of control and he's dragging his ethically bankrupt party with him.

@feloneouscat
JD Vance has changed his name several times. Should we revoke HIS right to vote? Do we even know what his original name was? Cuz I don't.

@jjGravitas

He could change his name on his birth certificate and all would be cool according to the text of this law.

@feloneouscat I'm not seeing that they want to make it illegal to vote if married name isn't changed on birth certificate in this article or links. Only that they want proof of citizenship. Where did you find it?

@awnaves SAVE Act text:

“ (5) A valid government-issued photo identification card issued by a Federal, State or Tribal government other than an identification described in paragraphs (1) through (4)”
(A) A certified birth certificate issued by a State
iii) includes the full name, date of birth, and place of birth of the applicant

There is no provision for changing your name when married.

This was by intent. The law would go in effect immediately.

congress.gov/bill/118th-congre

@awnaves

“Lacking a passport or other proof of citizenship with their married names, they must produce both a birth certificate (with the seal of the state where it was issued; no copies allowed) and a current form of identification—both with the exact same name on them”

@smittycanada1 @feloneouscat they don't care about disenfranchising women. They just want women to be subservient, and to not have a say in anything. It's sickening.
