No, Corpus Christi is a few hours south and west of Galveston. Iโm a good 3 miles from the bay, although my office overlooks the water.
My parents lived in Kingsville for years, so I'm familiar with Corpus. It was their closest "big city."
Oh! Kingsville is very close!
I remember when I was living in Rhode Island, I was telling a friend at work about how my dad was in the hospital (at the time, he's fine now) in Corpus Christi and she started laughing:
"There's seriously a place in Texas named Body of Christ?"
I was like ... well ... yes.
For some reason she thought that was hilarious.
Well, according to the internets, the bay was named a LONG time ago ๐:
1519: Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda named the bay and city after the Feast of Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi, Texas was incorporated on February 16, 1852, making it almost 173 years old:
