Yesterday, a 40-year-old friend asked, “So email was kind of the precursor to texting?”

Um, kind of.

@estherschindler
I recall when the emergence of email seemed like a potential renaissance for letter writing.

Briefly it was, but we've managed to dumb it all back down to short form quips and jibes again.

Still, I see some delicious 500s on CoSo, so there is always hope for literacy.

@ceorl @estherschindler on a related note, I found the book “Because Internet” fascinating. It covers the evolution of online communication styles and types, and how the time of entry into this space formed how various people communicate online.

@Flibitz @estherschindler

Thank you! That sounds interesting. I am fascinated how language and communication evolves or devolves.

I do love the 500 character limit of CoSo at present. I find constraints can be drivers to creativity.

Just for my own amusement, you will rarely see me doing any threaded posts. I take the tack that if I can't say it in 500 characters or less, it probably needs editing. :)
