Thank you, I love all things ancient Roman. It sounds like the decline of the empire itself contributed to the disappearance of bathing culture. The resources to support large scale bathing dried up and then the plague of Justinian decimated the coffers of the eastern empire.

@estherschindler Not bathing was still going on in the 1700s. Louis XIV was said to have only bathed 3 times in his life. A professor said that all the access to lakes and rivers here in the US eventually led to more frequent bathing.
