Andrew Yang is announcing a new initiative called the Data Dividend Project. The former presidential candidate believes your data is your property, and if you choose to share it, you should also share in the value. https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/22/21298919/andrew-yang-big-tech-data-dividend-project-facebook-google-ubi
Last time I checked, Jaron's position on the whole thing amounted to a boycott.
Yeah, not actually seeing strong backing for any "data sharing initiatives" going on here...
I'd go as far as to suggest that if Jaron got wind of this, he'd view the mere existence of Andy Claus as an eleventh argument to abandon social media. Yang would barely EXIST if it weren't for social media.
@mcfate While I never felt he was the right person to be president, I do think well of Yang as a person.
At least he's considering the issues and has the tech chops to do so.
Well, I think well of him as a shameless self-promoter who has yet to live up to his own press releases.
What actual "tech chops" does he have? He went to law school and decided he hated being a lawyer.
This is more of his self-promotion, he's as "technical" as Jake Paul.
@estherschindler
Andrew Yang should get a real job, and stop being a hippie.
I bet if you asked him to lay out what he thought of danah boyd or Jaron Lanier in any detail, he'd look blankly at you.
"Influenced by", ell oh ell.
