Most of us have heard that we should be hitting 10,000 steps a day to keep healthy and fit. But the research behind this target might surprise you.

@estherschindler I was a fitbit beta tester & have used it ever since. I try to get 10,000 steps but don't succeed. Sometimes I can make up for it on the weekend & hit 70,000 steps for the week, but no guarantees there either. Even tho the # is arbitrary I like having a goal to shoot for. Less sedentary is better. It makes me think twice about shooting for close parking or riding an elevator too. Hasn't made me any less old or fat tho!
