Boy, at this rate, Facebook and Twitter are both going to go bankrupt. Sure would stink if that happened, huh?
@Silea - The whole thing's bizarre. Suddenly it's all about decentralized social media - at least for me; the Mastodon etc stuff wasn't even a blip on my radar until a couple of weeks ago, and now I have friends who are constructing their own instances and they seem happy as clams.
Still on Twitter mainly. Same old weirdness, like this AM I got yelled at by like 5 people for inferring Olive Garden sucks. Ffs, climate is screwed, Trump's inciting again, but don't diss Olive Garden! 😺
@esaeger good riddance to irresponsible media. If they can't promote real information over propaganda, they don't deserve to be able to spread information.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - "Irresponsible" is a great euphemism for what they've done. Facebook and Twitter directly participated in the monetization of the destruction of the United States IYAM.
@esaeger I believe so, too. They are traitorous entities. Or maybe their founders are traitorous persons or greedy mother fuckers that don't care about the stability of the world. They need to go to the Hague or something. I don't know. It's an international crime, not just a US one. World economies have been affected.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - It's certainly the greedy motherfuckers option. And I've said for years now that the psychos who run these corporations need to do jail time.
Funny how corporate SM went from growing the Arab Spring to the Myanmar catastrophe. They're guilty of genocide.
@esaeger thats horrible and they should be held accountable.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - Someone needs to text me if justice ever gets served to the elite.
@esaeger that will be a red letter day.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - Amazes me how it just keeps going and going, Insulin prices, gas-gouging and so on. I keep telling people it's as if the elite have already built their giant underground enclave and they're just wringing the last few pennies out of us so they can build Olympic swimming pools and driving ranges. The hubris is absolutely mind-blowing, it really is.
@esaeger I'd like to send all the billionaires to mars. They'll have killed each other within the firs few months.
@AlbertCashiersCousin - Here's one to puzzle over: why haven't the food growing monsters like Monsanto gone to war with Charles Koch for scorching the planet. It's like someone should go to war with Charles Koch for scorching the planet.
@esaeger it's my strong belief that society would survive - maybe even thrive - if that were to occur. Hopeful.
@altucker - Totally.
One thing, though, I think if SM's going to be deeply decentralized, platforms should do away with Likes/thumbs-ups and let people judge posts by reading their written reactions. The Like button turns SM discourse into a dopamine chase and also fosters a mob mentality. People with low follower counts who put up great posts feel like losers when nobody engages, and meanwhile, people with a lot of friends but who post boring, redundant swill get their mediocrity encouraged.
@esaeger I've been happy that there doesn't seem to be the desparate follow seekers that there were on the bird thing. I never understood those folks that burnt calories chasing followers. I've stumbled upon some great people here and I hope to do some more stumbling.
@altucker - Lol I was just listening to a Twitter pod run by one of the most popular center-leftists; it was centered around gaining followers. Unintentional hilarity. Also kind of sad really.
@esaeger with my business hat on this is fascinating. The market will be in turmoil if two giant social networks collapse AND there are a whole bunch of tech folks out there suddenly without jobs. I foresee a startup boom. Let’s party like it’s 1999.
