And yes, the kid isn't yet 18, and this is his *FOURTH* car.
He loved his first - hand-me-down - 2006 Subaru Outback. But it got totaled by someone T-boning him.
Bought a used 2001 Audi A4 with insurance because he wanted "zoomy". That was unreliable AF. Lasted only 8 months.
So he replaced it with a 2007 Subaru Outback. But it also has had major reliability issues. That's been 5 months.
So, combining moneys, I'm happy he's getting brand-new.
@ehurtley I've bought new twice in my lifetime. That's really enough for me.

Doing quick math⦠*NOT* counting vehicles totaled in accidents, or vehicles we currently own, our average length of ownership is 7 years. Among them are two 14-year cars, two 7-year, one 8-year, and a 4, 3, and 2. (The 3 and 2 were my first two teenage-years cars.)
@ehurtley I drove my mother's 400 Caprice like I stole it...then I got my first car, and tried to baby it. ROFL Was a ford LTD II.
@hhv This also means that once we sell our "cars we're replacing", the *OLDEST* car at our house will be a 2021 - and it was bought in 2022 as a new car. (Plus my 2019 Arcimoto, but that's a special case vehicle.)
