Huh. It is cheaper to buy a Thunderbolt 3 -> PCI Express enclosure plus PCI Express 10Gbit Ethernet card than it is to buy a Thunderbolt 3 10Gbit Ethernet adapter.

By a lot.

A lot a lot. (Like $350 vs $1800.)

@ehurtley I’ve never seen 10Gbit being put to use in the wild.

@ehurtley I mean I designed a setup for a video editor and he hasn’t been able to use it because of the pandemic :/

@matuzalem I know a few people who use it to connect video edit stations to SANs.

At work we use it between our build servers and our storage arrays.

I just found a used 10Gbit switch locally cheap, was looking in to options to add 10Gbit to my laptop. More "just because" than anything; but not at those prices!

@ehurtley if you could afford the adapter you may as well get the 1,000$ coasters for the β€œNew” MacPro

@matuzalem πŸ˜‚ Yeah, definitely can't afford the $1800 adapter. Even the $350 is too much for the lack-of-serious-use I'd get. (I got a used $50 PCIe 10Gbit card for my server, so at least ONE system will be able to take advantage.)
