This is definitely a thing.. Remember Tianemen Square? or Operation Infektion in Russia ? they manufacture lies and then end up believing them after they become so entrenched in them.
This is a very good reason for us in this country to not vote for Trump. The pathological lying will distort decision making and it causes cognitive dissonance.
