Homelessness in Glasgow has risen again months after the SNP-run council declared an “emergency” in the city - Nearly 3,000 homeless children in Glasgow as figures rise again on SNP watch - total of 7,265 people were in temporary accommodation as of April 1st, but new figures show an increase to 7,371 in June.

The statistic for children rose from 2,765 over the same period.

SNP Ministers are under pressure over the homelessness epidemic after they announced a near £200m cut to the housing budget in the last budget.

Sean Clerkin, a housing campaigner who unearthed the figures, said:

figures from the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership reveal £27m has been handed to private hotels and bed and breakfasts in 2023/24 to house the homeless.

In Scotland each local authority has a duty of care in other words its law that local authority has to make sure people have a roof over their heads - there is always a loophole though
