There are a number of chroot environments and containers which can be installed on Android in order to run a minimal desktop Linux distribution on a phone or tablet.
Enter UserLand a utility for running Linux command line and desktop software on mobile Android devices. UserLAnd will even run complete Linux distributions in an isolated environment on your phone.

UserLAnd gives a pretty smooth experience. It takes less than a minute to set up new Linux distributions as guest sessions and you can connect to new sessions almost instantly using either OpenSSH or VNC clients
performance is pretty good, considering my limited hardware
