New voter ID requirements will have a "major impact" on a key Westminster by-election in Scotland, a campaign group has warned.
While they apply to Westminster votes and English local elections, the rules will not be used in Holyrood ballots or Scottish local elections.

@ecksmc I can’t believe our (the USA) disease has spread to Scotland. I would have bet good money that y’all were solid resisters. 💔
@LindaGoodliffe well this specific thing is a UK rule for votes for westminster elections
Scotland really doesn't have a say in that we have to follow the law if we want to vote in they elections and all scottish elections won't require IDs
Tories are counting on folk not voting so they can win seats from SNP
@ecksmc @LindaGoodliffe
In the US, it tends to prevent elderly Black voters who were born in the rural south. Recordkeeping for their birth certificates was very haphazard. The midwife would just drop by the county seat once a month and everyone's birth certificate would be recorded that date. Poor people didn't dare try to vote back then.
It also affects poor people who have to move due to home fires or evictions, as their personal papers get lost during moves.
@AlphaCentauri @ecksmc We need the next Congress to put an end to this. 🤬
@ecksmc Well, I hope the Tories will be disappointed. 🤬🤬
i mean, we already heard why tories want photo ID for votes by Jacob Ress-mog
"Parties that try and gerrymander end up finding that their clever scheme comes back to bite them, as dare I say we found by insisting on voter ID for elections.
We found the people who didn't have ID were elderly and they by and large voted Conservative, so we made it hard for our own voters and we upset a system that worked perfectly well"
they thought they'd win big because of the ID's lol eejits
