12 Secure Browsers That Protect Your Privacy in 2023
I've had Firefox focus set as my default browser for a long time now so any URL i tap via any other app opens in FFF
if you need to open a URL in different browser just tap the 3 dota top right, or ling press URL in address bar, and share URL with another browser like Chrome, Brave etc.....so you can bookmark it - Firefox focus doesn't have a bookmark feature like i said no whistles or bells
it's fast as well because of the no whistles & bells
been using Brave on mobile for years...10/10 would recommend
started using Mullvad Browser (socks5 proxied thru Mullvad VPN + their DoH DNS) on laptop for non logged in web browsings...been pretty satisfied with that as well...
@opie i have Brave on mobile also it is a good browser
i just prefer Firefox focus for speed at opening articles after tapping URLs from other apps it's lightning fast because it's bare bones with no real "elements" to load in background - it inly jas the page from the URL to load
i also have Firefox original as well a chrome on same device - chrome & Firefox focus on chromebook are my two best when on stable channel ChromeOS
(just started using Mullvad VPN myself tonight standalone apps)
never tried it but Norton anything hmmmmm
2023 NortonLifeLock customers have been warned that their accounts may have been compromised in a security breach
2022 Norton 360, one of the most popular antivirus products on the market today, has installed a cryptocurrency mining program -Norton is facing criticism for including a crypto miner alongside its Norton 360 security software. Activists like Cory Doctorow have said
and many more unsavoury stuff
@Airborne_Frog i do use brave myself as well a Firefox focus & Firefox - Firefox focus is fast striped of almost all annoying features and focuses on security & privacy good for SM URL taps after reading close it wipes all data/ cookies etc..... great app imo
chrome also cause i can quickly push stuff directly to my Chromebook chrome browser which is handy as well as saving "read later' articles from Android chrome syncs to my "read later' ChromeOS in on tap
@ecksmc Been using Brave in all devices for a few years now. Happy to see it's #1!
@HealingHobbit Brave has its flaws
also that's just one articles review ive seen loads where Brave is way bottom of list - like 5th and under
then we have stories of brave not being on the right side of privacy and security

just one article from over the years - fact is ALL browsers at some point get bad reviews and do bad things & try to hide it EVERYONE has to make there own mind up
@ecksmc I tried Firefox, but it bogged my computer no matter what I did. And yeah, they all have issues.
@ecksmc It gets exhausting trying to find the lesser of all evils, and I think many just give up the struggle and go with what's easiest. I'm trying to fend off that impulse.
@HealingHobbit there are few good alternatives about like
ungoogled-chromium
A lightweight approach to removing Google web service dependency
ungoogled-chromium retains the default Chromium experience as closely as possible. Unlike other Chromium forks that have their own visions of a web browser, ungoogled-chromium is essentially a drop-in replacement for Chromium.
ungoogled-chromium features tweaks to enhance privacy, control, and transparency.
@ecksmc In Captain Dummy speak, what would you recommend for someone who just wants to be a bit safer online? I have everything possible blocked or disabled as a general rule. I just downloaded Firefox to my cell, and still have Brave on it for now, but will try something else if you think it's better. @th3j35t3r
@HealingHobbit really depends what your online for and mostly doin
for social media, if you use SM apps like twitter app - instagram aoo - FB app etc... as far as browsers go like i said firefox focus just because of the bare bones features and what it d=features it has are all security/privacy based - that and it open URLs you tap inside they SM apps fast with no fuss then when closing to go back to SM app all data & site settings a re wiped as well as cookies automatically
@HealingHobbit that said it is a personal choice
firefox focus doesn't allow you to bookmark stuff or anything fancy like other browsers do - what you do then is tap three dots and share with a browser like brave or chrome and bookmark from there ##you can download from firefox focus though like pics and PDF etc
Brave is good browser - Firefox is gonna start rolling out the full extension/add on library soon also so, you can instal any add-on just like desktop
personal choice
@th3j35t3r
@ecksmc Good to know, thanks. 🙂@th3j35t3r
@HealingHobbit i use several browsers myself on different devices each has it's functionality
after a while of having a few browsers installed and set up in different ways you get used to it and it becomes second hand what browser to use for what without even thinking
never put your eggs in one basket
also use different search engines
startpage
duckduckgo
google
Google Scholar.
DogPile
Openverse
it's easy to set them all up in on browser via "search engines" & create shortcuts
surprised that Firefox focus isn't in that list
imo it's the best privacy focused browser about
no whistles or bells just straight up privacy settings and anti tracking options - can't store any history - blocks ad trackers and more(see screenshot)
wipes everything as soon as you close the browser or tap the "bin" icon top left of address bar
it's an ideal browser for using when tapping URLs from social media sites
highly recommend it been using it for years
