the US is "a glaring exception among wealthy countries" on nearly every metric, because we're the only wealthy country that lets the wealthy decide how to run the country. we're the only wealthy country that has decided the not-wealthy are fodder for the meat grinder of unfettered capitalism, that has been systematically destroying the social safety net & the entire social contract so that billionaires can fill another wine cellar with $100,000 bottles of wine.
@dietotaku The charging infostructure and distance between charges is not there yet and battery replacement ( a certainty) makes an engine rebuild seem like a bargain.
@MidnightRider the battery is most of the cost of an EV so if they can make that cheaper that will automatically make the whole car cheaper. also I'm not sure how many people are traveling more than 50 miles a day, I mean it's not like we're a bunch of long-haul truckers...
@dietotaku Yeah until you want to go on a trip! I pulled in to "relieve myself" 4AM North Carolina, some poor woman on the charger. No thanks. We are just not there yet.
My son swears by his RAV EV hybrid. And says same thing about battery.
@LnzyHou @dietotaku Right now a hybrid is the way to go. My friend is a Toyota master tech, he replaced his Prius batter pack himself, what a Mickey Mouse arrangement of single cells that car has.
@MidnightRider @LnzyHou the hard part is finding a hybrid that plugs in so it counts for the tax credit
@dietotaku @LnzyHou I'm going to run the Ford till it explodes, a paid vehicle makes retired people happy. After that? My childhood pal works in "car you know" corporate, he can gift direct discounts 4 per year, I'll have him on speed dial. That company already has some sweet gas / electric hybrids.
@MidnightRider @LnzyHou man i wish i had a hook-up like that
@dietotaku @LnzyHou Taking the dealer out of the equation is so sweet! The Ford dealership our dealership was friendly with. We did business together and grandmothers had family ties. Was totally worth it to drive out of town to buy. Luke turned the screen around: This is what we paid midnight, this is what we can give it to you for. Perfect Luke now let's have coffee
@dietotaku @MidnightRider @LnzyHou also, plugging in an EV in CA would undo the tax credit in any case, simply because we pay 3x as much for power here. (Yay, privatized infrastructure and the fucking shareholders… more rampant capitalism! Woohoo!🙄)
@nopuppet_007 @dietotaku @LnzyHou I live in an electric grid, all of us who live in it are owners. It's the cheapest electric in the entire state. That and walk entrance to the trail system was required for me to even consider purchase when I was shopping.
@dietotaku I worked with a guy in Ohio who owned 72 guns, lived in the country, and because of his paranoia, was buying all the properties surrounding his. This was before the pandemic; I can't imagine how many guns and how much land he owns now.
so most suicides are by gun, and eliminating the means reduces the suicide rate, so what are we doing? sealing up bridges and rooftops. of course.
