One remarkable figure we celebrate today is Brigadier General Charles Young. As the first African American superintendent of a national park, he played a pivotal role in the early conservation efforts of Sequoia National Park. In 1903, Young and his troops from the Buffalo Soldiers built roads and trails that helped make the park accessible for future generations to enjoy.

But,in 1903 he and the other blacks that slaved building these roads and trails weren't allowed in the park. Right?
