@dauphin87 "In God We Trust" only came to be US motto in 1956 (evangelical pressure on Eisenhower). The expression was first used on a coin in 1864 purportedly to boost the moral of Union soldiers during the civil war. Our Fore fathers and Franklin were of the 'E pluribus unum' persuasion, they even wrote a whole document called the constitution based around that idea and put cautions in that document of the evils of mixing church and state.
