I wonder if people remember that a LOT of university tuition used to be free up until the mid 1960's. One of the main reasons it went to a fee-based system was to try to keep the non-white (and non-male) element out, because people like Ronald Reagan (yeah, him!!) proposed it in the late 60's to ...and I quote “get rid of undesirables […] those who are there to carry signs and not to study might think twice to carry picket signs.”
