“ When Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed the new Windows AI tool that can answer questions about your web browsing and laptop use, he said one of the “magical” things about it was that the data doesn’t leave your laptop; the Windows Recall system takes screenshots of your activity every five seconds and saves them on the device. But security experts say that data may not stay there for long.”

Magical… also a privacy nightmare.

Windows MUST be removed from ALL US government computers.

This is just a BAD BAD and STUPID idea.

Is Microsoft in league with people who WANT to steal your private information?

Seriously, how dumb is Redmond?

@feloneouscat agreed and that include state infrastructure too. Some of which is running ancient versions of Windows. We should have some hardened version of Linux and keep the Windows machines off the internet.

Why does this even exist? Who needs this data? What possible use is the information to anyone, even (or especially) the user?

It's insane. Completely insane.

@danalan every opportunity to to collect data on end users for psychometric profiling, analysis, feeding AI to sell customer information that may be used to for law enforcement (it’s not an illegal search if it’s paid for data), deny or up charge services like insurance or credit, employment/background checks and attempts at yet more targeted advertising & who knows maybe target political enemies. Pro tip: Your surroundings need not look like Bladerunner to be dystopian hellscapes @feloneouscat
