Why the black hole information paradox still hasn’t been solved

What do they think is at the top of the rope? Are they hoping to figure out everything that ever fell into that black hole and reconstruct it's history? Perhaps if every object is lined up and each is peeled apart according to some algorithm (like with that LASER thingy from Tron) and then fed into the hole sequentially. Otherwise it's like putting a spoon full of gumbo under a microscope and expecting to write the recipe. Yes? No?
