Dear CounterSocial, I still haven't been able to figure out how to add friends on Desktop. This is ridiculous. I am a UX Professional and I haven't been able to figure it out yet!

@cosmiquemuffin Click on their handle, the far right column will show their profile and you can click Follow.

@cosmiquemuffin First you'll have to find their profile. Typing their handle in the search box usually does it. Next, click on this button.

@kel THIS is the answer I've been looking for! Thanks!

@cosmiquemuffin Click username, click "follow" button.

Be patient. FB and TW looked (and functioned) like shit when they were released.

@brianckelley It should be an option/button in the "My Friends" settings. This is for when someone on Twitter told me their handle, not when I see a post here.

@cosmiquemuffin You can also search for the @ username in the search box. I found yours relatively easy.

@brianckelley Yep. I know this now. But it would be nice if there was a reasonable FAQ. The current one is supremely unhelpful. counter.social/faq.html

@brianckelley This is for when someone on Twitter told me their handle, not when I see a post here. Someone else suggested searching first and then hitting follow on the results, which works.

@cosmiquemuffin good to hear. But, like I said, it's easy to be overly-critical of "the new". As a UX designer, I'm sure you're familiar with the concept.

@brianckelley That's true. But the fix is a low-cost, easy one. Adding a friend should be as easy as going to the "My Friends" section settings and clicking Follow. There are multiple points where this affordance can be added.

Also, ppl keep talking about a User Guide, but I can't find it anywhere, not even in the FAQ, which cutely talks about the European swallow bit from MP's Holy Grail. Just dumb.

@cosmiquemuffin You mean follow folks? Click their avatar and choose follow. They should then show up in your My friends feed. If I answered the wrong question, let me know and I'll try again. 😊

@Cosmichomicide This is for when someone on Twitter told me their handle, not when I see a post here. Someone else suggested searching first and then hitting follow on the results, which works.

@cosmiquemuffin Ah, yup. I did answer the wrong question. Glad you got it sorted.

@cosmiquemuffin

just wanna add to everyone's correct answers that if you're still having issues and a mac user, try using Chrome or Firefox. I don't believe CoSo is officially supported on Safari for now and it can sometimes be a little buggy.
(I keep coso open in chrome with my music and use safari for everything else.)

And welcome!

@razorbunz Thanks! I am using Chrome with Ad Blockers off. The only way to do it is to search and then click Follow. It would be nice if the FAQ mentions... you know... Frequently Asked Questions like this. It talks about the Laden Swallow bit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Cute, but dumb.

@cosmiquemuffin

lol well to be fair the userguide was put together by users of the site to be helpful, not as an "official" document from coso. I'm sure with the influx of folks and things moving faster now, a more comprehensive guide will emerge soon.
Have fun and if you have any more questions, shout em out!

Follow Others
Click on a user's name (or avi) to go to their profile. In the upper left corner, click on FOLLOW.
You can type any username, or portion of a username, in the Search field and when you press enter you can select eha ccount you're looking for. Just remember to include @. If you're looking for friends who joined from Twitter, they may be using the same account name, but not always. In that case, you may want to go to someone you know and review their Followers.

@cosmiquemuffin

I'm assuming you've read the user guide? If not...

counter.social/userguide.pdf

To add friends, one simply clicks 'follow' in that person's profile.

Welcome to CoSo - we truly are a friendly bunch, and are willing to help in any way we can. But please do read the user guide first, as it answers a multitude of questions.

@NanaWithSoul I love the User Guide now that I know how to find it (it didn't even show up on Google when I searched for "CounterSocial User Guide". The link should be in the FAQ.

I want to like CoSo. I do! 😊 I want it to succeed as well. There are a few low-cost things like adding the user guide to the FAQ and in a welcome area to help new users. I shouldn't have to reach out to the community to get the secret link.

@cosmiquemuffin

I can understand your point...to a point. When new users join, they are frequently inundated with welcomes, links, etc.

It isn't a secret link. Reaching out to the community is what we do, because we ARE a community, and therefore help one another, especially newbies.

And CoSo has been succeeding for five years.

@cosmiquemuffin click on the name, it opens in another column, hit the big blue follow button
you can also follow back from the notification column if someone follows you
