Code's eclectic music pick of the day is:
The first instrument I learned to play was trumpet, and I discovered Maynard Ferguson early on. All of us in band idolized him and his upper register. We went to his concerts, bought his albums. At that age, it was all about trying to hit those high notes. But later I discovered a guy that put old Maynard to shame. Not only high notes, but control. Finesse. Rock.
So here is (Bill) Chase with Get It On.
Chase's 'Pure Music' album, especially the cut "Bochawa," got played smooth my senior year in high school. Tremendous band.
@northernbassist I would have loved to see them live. Sad story about how it all ended. This is a pretty good read for those interested: https://rucore.libraries.rutgers.edu/rutgers-lib/43839/PDF/1/play/
@northernbassist Oh no! Just something I found that I thought was a pretty good background of the band. Although I did study music composition in college, I did not make it to Master's level... while in college I had the realization that by pursuing a degree in Music Composition, there was a 96% chance I'd spend the rest of my life as either a high-school band teacher or a church music director. At the time, neither path appealed to me. 🙂
