EDIT: Ah, I see what you mean.
When you want to post a link, you need to include the http[s]:// part with your copy/paste. CoSo will automatically trim excess characters (as well as reduce the display of the full URI), but the full link still has to be pasted.
Any link you paste will still take no more than 23 characters of post limits, tho.

Addendum: note that the sanitizer will often strip links of the goofy bits that are meant for tracking/ monetizing traffic, which occasionally might strip out things you actually need for the link to work.
If that happens, delete and redraft, then use the phrase "nosanitize" anywhere in the message to prevent this (no "" are necessary).
