Audiophiles, would you rehab an 80's era linear tracking turntable & have to buy an amp & speakers? Buy something new that's ready to go out of the box? Are any of the Crosley, Victrola, Audio-Technica etc systems worthwhile?
Debating what I want to spend, what my wife thinks we should spend and what I used to have.

@chuck34108

which table? how do you listen? lots of good all in ones today. Great small footprint amps like Sprout, many many bookshelf options for speakers, all kinds of source options...you can put together a really good system for well under $1K...and keep your eye on local Craigslist..excellent deals to be found there..

@northernbassist I have a JVC L-E3 that needs a good cleanup and replacement mat

@chuck34108

doesn't look like you have a lot of cartridge options on that table...personally, i'd think about a new table....

@northernbassist yeah, that's a big consideration. The may had cutouts for a sensor so would want the same mat and the cartridge appears to be made for that table.

@chuck34108

Orbit Basic table w/cart--$249.00
NAD C-316BEE V2 amp--$399.00
KEF Q150 speakers--349.00/pr.

heres' an option.. i have experience with the table and speakers..NAD builds excellent reasonably priced amps.

@northernbassist nice setup but then the budget kicks in. lol My original stereo took about 8 months of buying piece by piece from what I made at my first job.
In the end, I'll probably end up with turntable/preamp like House of Marley or Audio-Technica.

@chuck34108

one thing...the Orbit table has a switchable phono preamp in it, so you can plug straight into any aux level input for now...then if/when you upgrade your amp, you can switch the pre off and still use it.

happy tunes...

@northernbassist ah....save some $ upfront and upgrade later.
Back in the day, I bought my receiver first then took two months to afford speakers.

@chuck34108

i'm a transducer guy...cartridge and speakers. always upgraded my amp last.
