Okay I started learning Japanese with freaking Duolingo, in the hopes that maybe in 2022 I could travel to Japan.

I just realized I am trying to learn a foreign language via English.

Not that it is a particularly big deal, but considering english is not my native language and I suck at grammar rules on all languages I speak.

But the sheer fact that I have an option of doing it! Acknowledging my privilege of a good school system that taught me to speak 4 languages already..

@Fiikus_goddess Duo should offer you a chance to select a first language other than English. Go to Add a New Course and hopefully the "I Speak" drop down will let you select your first language.

@chakaal Nope, didn't give it as an option.

But the point was that I don't need to use my native language as a starting point to learn a new language.

It was just a random realization.

@Fiikus_goddess Problem is when you work in tech support or IT, have to try!

@chakaal Oh I tried! I suffer from the same professional disease πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
