Does anybody know slime molds? This came out of hardwood mulch that was spread sometime 8-10 weeks ago.
@celticsfanaticentomologist wood mulch...more than likely Dog Vomit Slime Mold (Fuligo septica). Go down this rabbit hole!

@Victor yes, that looks right...I had a former colleague who worked on the biology of fungivorous beetles, most especially Leiodidae. A substantial number of species were more or less slime mold preferential. Have always had a little interest since knowing him, but have never dug in too much.
@celticsfanaticentomologist Most of us don't look into anything unless we run into them and want to know what it is and its relationships to #nature.
