Gov. Newsom signed SB 1061 on Sept. 24, which will keep medical debts off credit reports. “No Californian should be unable to secure housing, a loan, or even a job because they accessed necessary medical care,” said Sen. Monique Limón, a Santa Barbara Democrat who authored the law. The law takes effect on Jan. 1, 2025.
